Iran has built up its naval forces in the Gulf and prepared boats that could be used in suicide attacks, but the U.S. Navy can prevent it from blocking the Strait of Hormuz, the commander of U.S. naval forces in the region said on Sunday.

Iran has made a series of threats in recent weeks to disrupt shipping in the Gulf or strike U.S. forces in retaliation if its oil trade is shut down by sanctions, or if its disputed nuclear program comes under attack.

Look guys, it is very clear that these boats are build for civilian usage, and will go well together with the enriched uranium that is also for civilian usage only, and any suggestion otherwise is an insult to Iran, and an attack on islam. Allah Akbar.

Pentagon Papers - proved the government lied and the Gulf of Tonkin Incident - was a false flag. Read about Operation Northwoods. The US would attack it's own citizens and make it look like a Cuban retaliation for the Bay of Pigs to change US and World opinion on a US invasion of Cuba.

The US beat the Japanese at this game in WWII. The US Navy has had almost 60 years to work on a defense against something like this. They were surprised in Yemen... not again!

What a fool you are. Have you no shame? It's easy for you on that side of the safety of your computer to cheer on the "War." If you think it is so easy, then go enlist. Go get on the front lines. There is no threat to the US besides higher gas prices at the pump.

Gas is projected to hit $4.00 a gallon this spring, which is a psycological barrier to continued consumer demand. It could put the fledgling economic recovery at risk.

Wars are declared by politicians, or ought to be. Too often they are not declared at all. Generals and Admirals have never, once, advocated for peace in my lifetime. They are, in their public statements, always eager to make war. I understand that, it's what they do, and it's what justifies their existence.

War is their way to power and money and gratification.

Excuse me BC? I have to differ with you on the military. Money? The military gets paid whether there is war or not. The money thing is business and politics -- believe me. Not only that, but I personally know many military officers from several countries -- some of them my relatives. Never met one yet that was actually wanting to go to war. Actually, what is happening with this report from the US Navy is they are worried.

The money goes to pay for wars and hardware. My fault for not making that clear. Other than for our large mercenary and war-services industry, the government military does not have a profit motive. I did not mean to imply that it does.

Wars are declared by the politicians, if they even choose to declare war, not the military.

And I will raise you one better. The wars are now corporate/political missions. These wars are designed by a very elite class of business/political people, who have been doing this since WW1. The world economy is about to bust, and then what? A major world war. I think John Bolton even let that slip out of his mouth recently. But I also believe that the military war complex wants to launch the next generation of destruction like we did on Japan. I think it may even come from a satellite. Don't worry your little heads, they are on it. We are all getting poised for war.

But, in spite of all of the marvel of modern warfare, the plan could get messed up. Yes, these plans could get thwarted by an act of God. He could mess up the war mongers plan for His Glory. Maybe He is tired of these wars, and in sorrow for all of the poor souls crying out to Him. He sees how unfair these last centuries have been. In fact, we have lost more people to wars than any time in history. Maybe it is time for His justice and mercy to reign. Maybe it is time for judgement.

"Because of the oppression of the weak and the groaning of the needy, I will now arise," says the LORD. "I will protect them from those who malign them."

Slight deviation on the military pay. Military personnel get paid whether they are at war or not. However, the plan is to convert those active duty military persons into inactive civilians; therefore, they will not be on the military payroll, thus saving money on the military expense but increasing cost of civilian unemployment payments, which will be cheaper than military pay and benefits. See, Obama has it all figured out.

The small arms on most US military warships will make it easy for them to destroy this type of craft right after the advanced sensors detect it far away from the ship.

I would NOT want to be on one of these boats if it went after a major surface warfare combatant.

(I am USA citizen)... 2012 is presidential election year, so it's weird here.

After "dubya" (sorry, that's our, uhh, 'affectionate' name for that imbecile G.W.Bush...). the majority of us in the USA (the 99%), do not trust our Federal government AT ALL. Whether it's our Federal budget, our Securities Trading ("Wall Street") mechanism, or anything else... the USA is in trouble....

The USA is in this strange place. We are the hegemony... (oh, wait, maybe not?). Oh, yeah, China is the hegemony... (Oh, NO they're not!!!) -- we (USA) are! (Oh, no they're not!)

"I know you are, but what am I?" (PeeWee Herman's PlayHouse...)

                          We can pray!

And if it comes to any war-mongering...? OMG. As I said, "election year" here.

Does Iran have nuclear weapons? I don't know. I really hope not. I/we (USA/Canada) do know Israel, India and Pakistan have nuclear bombs (for sure); others... I don't know?

Will Israel use a nuc against Iran? I PRAY not! But it they do, what would we (USA & Canada) do?

adm Fox indicated that diplomacy preferred. After over 63 years of listening in on navy brass, E.J. King on down, they always would choose diplomacy. Look back through our naval history and this is common thread, even John Barry. Disdaining combat but ready to whack anyone.

We do not have a battleship!

Not concerned that our navy will provoke war. Senator from SC, Graham, with his concept of winning the war with air power only. Now, that is a big reach, and not true. If sold to USA citizens, we will regret.

I believe it was late September/early October, 1966 while on Yankee Station we were called to General Quarters in response to North Vietnam sending 3 small patrol boats from Hai Phong to "attack" my boat, the U.S.S. Constellation (CVA-64).

It was a fools mission as we immediately launched our on call F-4 that promptly sunk all three boats before returning.

I do not want to lessen the threat that Iran can throw at us, but as a proud Navy man I can tell you, we will be prepared. The Cole will not happen again.

From a tactics point of view, these small Iranian boats would probably get hammered. I understand the USS Cole was in port at the time it was struck, at it's most vulnerable...Still, these boats could be a distraction away from other, more deadly threats: Sea-skimming missiles, torpedoes, mines, large seabed IED's, remote controlled devices of one form or another.....That strait is pretty narrow and what with a large number of vessels clumped together.... I remember the Falklands as a kid. Those exocet missiles proved deadly....Be careful....

I am not trying to be an internet hero and I too watched the exocet nailing the Sheffield. I also remember the Cole and my point is we let our guard down before, we won't again.

I am not so bold as to say the Navy wouldn't suffer losses, but our overwhelming superiority in air and sea weapon delivery argues against the imbecilic posturing of the Iranians.

I am just an arm chair general, but I think you are both right. The Persians invented the hat trick. I can envision 60 or seventy of those boats scurrying around our ships (at a safe distance mind you) but maneuvers with lots of small boats can be kind of tricky -- especially when the little boats each carry enough explosives to blow a hole in a destroyer.

The US Navy does have the fire power and the tracking capability to take out just about anything, but hat tricks are just that -- tricks.

I was watching one of the "how it is built" programs this afternoon that featured an Arliegh Burke class destroyer. (I rode a Destroyer Escort for awhile in 1964, ugh!)

The main gun armament is a 127/45 gun that can fire off 4 rounds at four different targets within 15 seconds with extreme accuracy. The projectile has a muzzle velocity of 2,500 fps and a range of 12 miles.

I am going to guess that some of those Iranian ski boat drivers won't be able to turn quick enough, even if they knew they were the target.

LET'S HOPE WE DON'T HAVE TO USE THESE DESTROYERS/PLANES/SUBS ANYTIME SOON!

Yes, for missiles (4,500 spent uranium pellets/minute). They also have a number of heavy caliber machine guns and torpedoes.

Michael in SJ, I served on two WWII Destroyer Escorts (DE152 and DER244) way back when. I agree, UGH! 5-inch 38 40mm guns along with a few torpedos, which probably didn't have enough torpedo juice left to propell them.

There won't be a war unless Obama remains down in the polls and his handlers think that he needs a "good war" to get re-elected. The narrative is beginning to change from blaming Israel for everything to beginning to blame the Iranian mullahs. Get ready for a war this summer. Of course Obama will claim that the Jews started it so it's not his fault.

Intelligent people like the Iranians can adapt the U.S. drone technology that the U.S. gave them. It should be simple for them to make unmanned "suicide" boats to attack ships in the Gulf..

Really? You really want to go there? (USA) President Reagan wore two different contact lenses -- one near-sighted and one far-sighted -- so he could read the teleprompter... Reagen NEVER gave a speech w/out a teleprompter.

(BTW, notice that for "important" things, Romney uses a teleprompter....)

A couple of days ago 'our side' let us know that the Pentagon has asked for money to hurry development and construction of a new and improved bunker buster bomb; today we learned that Iran will deploy new and improved suicide boats to attack and confuse U.S. navy ships. Next.

very very truthfully. strategic air campaign will not be the solution that has been pushed by south carolina senator graham (A. F. jag).

To do this correctly, we do have to send in glow boys who have the experience to identify the irreplacable components and destroy them.

There are other options and the best one right now is Hilary.

Another proposed option is to cut israel loose with their nukes. This is the most dangerous talk I have heard since 1962. Who from russia whispered in our ear and said this is aok?

Twice, Dean Rusk passed along messages to DC and yes, the chinese came into korea and yes, both russia and china supplied north viet nam.

Unfortunately for President Obama, the U.S. is too far out from the Bush administrations for Obama to use their shortfalls as effective election propaganda. The opposition is already playing video clips of Obama's last campaign speeches and promises; quite telling.
