When the followers of Jesus sat with him at that Passover Feast...
they did not know it was to be the last time --
the last time he would share that feast with them.
When Jesus broke the bread and shared the wine,,,.
they did not know what he meant
when he said body would be broken, his blood, shed.
When Jesus lead his friends to the Garden of Gethsemane….
they did not know he was going to ask his Father for mercy
from a death so painful it would shake the earth.
When he went away to pray, they fell asleep,,..
they did not know this night was to begin a process
which would change everything.
When the soldiers came to arrest him…
they did not know what to do -- fight, or run
they ran.
When Jesus was taken before the Sanhedrin,
the priests showed their fear of Rome.
They sent him to the puppet King.
When he was taken before Herod, Herod wanted to see the miracles….
After all, he was the king, he thought he could command Jesus --
his highness did not know.
When Jesus was taken to the Roman Governor,
he was a Roman, injustice was distasteful but,
like a good politician, he let the crowd decide.
When Jesus was beaten and scourged…
his best friend denied knowing who his teacher was
he did not want to know.
When this man, this good man was taken to Golgotha….
his body was broken, and he bled to death
the faithful followers did not stand beside him, but hid away.
Some want the story of Jesus’ life to end at the cross --
just a good man treated bad nothing new, nothing changed
they don’t know who he is.
Others want a Savior to bring Hope to a dying world
but they keep looking.
They want to know, but they doubt.
Some believe he still lives.
They know,
Do you?
